What is liverpool like nowadays?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
I've applied to the University of Liverpool but I'm not British so a can't visit the place before and I've never been to Liverpool. As a looked it up I've read very good things but also some bad things about the city. I'm really interested in everything in connection with the city. As I'm from Hungary where the money has a whole different value (the salaries are much lower but the prices are lower as well, for example you can rent a nice flat for about 100-200? per month in Budapest) so I don't expect my parents to pay for everything and they probably won't be able to. So a really important aspect is if it's easy to find a part-time job or not? I mean any kinds of jobs I'm aware that I won't get a fancy one without any specific qualifications. Apart from that, as I mentioned above, I'm really interested in everything about the city is it good, how is the nightlife, how are the people etc.. Thank you in advance:)

Yer want ter join the 'de folks on the hill'.

That's Scouse speak for the University of Liverpool .

The academic buildings are just out of the city centre and the area is safe.

From the academic building into the city centre (shops clubs etc) is safe enough , However to one side of the university is Toxteth/Dingle which can be a bit rough.

Is the university gives you residence in the Carnatic Halls , that' fine. They are two mile ( 3 kilometres )from the academic buildings, and in a safe area of Mossley Hill. There is a student bus service between the Carnatic Hall's and the Academic building in the city centre, which I would recommend you use for safety and distance.

If you have to find your own accommodation, that us more problematical. However, I would enquire with Student's Union or U o Lpool Student finance dept , both should be able to give you guidance.

Since you are new to Liverpool , her Issome local lingo (language - Scouse).

A multicultural, vibrant, friendly city, with 3 universities, 2 cathedrals,a famous river, theatres, art galleries including the Tate, museums, concert halls including the Royal Philharmonic Hall, more green spaces than any other city in England outside London and more listed (heritage) buildings than any other city in England outside London. The people are known for being friendly, witty, humorous, musical and fiercly loyal, proud and independent.

I know that I won't get rich from these kinds of jobs the question is if there are many of them or not:) thank you for the answers so far I would be grateful if I got some more:)

Most jobs that fit around a student lifestyle are minimum wage options - catering, hospitality, bar / waiter work, retail.

The city Is still a toliet full of scallys

Super improved city...
