What's Salou like?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
I have been to Salou various times and last time was 3 years ago, I hated Benidorm and I loved Alcudia Majorca and prefer Alcudia to any Spanish holiday resort and I have been to them all. Salou is nice but it has went downhill in the past few years (I have been around 6 times), it was originally a family resort but is more aimed at teenagers, although nothing like Magaluf or Benidorm. in the past Salou had friendly Spanish workers but I now find it is being taken over by african and moroccan workers and very few Spanish people, apart from that there is lots of English type pubs and karaoke bars, this link gives the info, Portaventura is great for a day out. The only advice I would give is late evening avoid the area from the end of the beach that goes up a steep hill as that is know as the gay area, beside Las Vegas hotel, Good Luck

I have been to salou twice . First time was about 20 years ago. I t was not the best then, however my son, daughter and my daughters, boyfriend booked a long weekend in salou 2 years ago for my 60th birthday. It was absolutely brilliant. The weather when we went, was not great, but the holiday was amazing. The resort itself had a vibrant feel about it. We went on a day trip to Barcelona which was absolutely awesome, even although it continued to rain for a good percentage of the day. Whilst travelling back to salou from Barcelona I had a conversation with my daughter, emma, which was amazing. I received feedback from my girl that I could not have believed, in that time that she did not really know what it was that I did for a living. I am so proud of my son and daughter. I INCLUDE MY former wife HELEN, in this scenario. She has always been magnificent regarding this relationship, where I have been sadly lacking, due to my S A D DISorder. I am extremely sorry for this failing, BUT I did NOT have a choice in this scenario. YOU GET WHATEVER HAND YOU ARE DEALT WITH IN THIS LIFE. Yes I had a choice as to whichever way to go Yes I chose the wrong path. I will always regret till my dying day that I made the wrong decision. Helen , I love you, I have always loved you.

Its not rough! Like any big resort or going out in a UK town try to be sensible. If your going to have a drink taxi it home or stick together in groups.

First of all the Salou Princess is a very good hotel in a decent spot.

Salou is better than anywhere I have been to on Tenerife. There is a bit to do for everyone.

* Got the best theme park in Europe also with two very good waterparks

* The best beaches all with Blue Flags - August is normally 85f+

* Going out you can go cheesey or up market or anywhere inbetween

* Some nice beach bars not far from your hotel

* Food - you can do trad Spanish or Chinese or Indian or burgers or steaks or trad English or Irish... even Japanese!

* Most bars open until midnight, late bars until 3am and clubs until 6am

Having said all this if you have any specific questions.... fire away. Have a great time.

I sa a blog post on this the other day, give me 5 min to check browser history.

I'm going to Salou 1st wk of Oct for the 1st time. In the past I've been to Benidorm (never again) and Majorca (never again) as it's like Blackpool with good weather. British this British this and people who look at who blankly when you talk Spanish.

Anyone been? Any feedback?
