BTW, there isn't an airport in Benidorm.
El Altet Airport (ALC), Alicante is the closes.
.Denia is north of the airport and its about 1 ihr 5 minutes drive.

Goodnight,why didnt you know that the airport is called El Altet and not Alicante if you know so much about it.
You have two to choose from, Alicante, which is a bit closer, and Valencia which is roughly at a similar distance but being a bigger airport you might find more flights going there, depending on where you're flying from and time of the year, of course.
Benidorm's airport? LOL, yeah, right, just outside the bar...

Sorry if I didn't make myself understood but bigger means bigger, not more passengers, especially if those are mainly during the high season.
Obviously Valencia's airport is receiving less passengers from Spain, now that the high speed train from Madrid has been opeating for a while, but it still is a lot more comfortable and bigger than Alicante's. Now for the figure lovers I chose the most recent and non-high season months:
Number of Flights in:
January 2013 - Valencia 973.358 vs Alicante: 216.362
February 2013 - Valencia: 933.214 vs Alicante: 215.331
Even if at the end of the year Alicante receives more passengers they are basically tourists during the summer months. And as I said above, the best option for you might depend on where you're flying from.
Despite some believing that Spain's survival depends exclusively on British tourists arriving to Alicante and Málaga airport, the actual facts are quite different, if only they bothered to go beyond the English bars in tourist traps.
Alicante airport is the nearest to Denia, some 65 miles away. Valencia airport, at 75 miles distant, is the next nearest.

Edit - Just to correct another contributor, Alicante airport is the larger airport, with 4 million more passengers than Valencia airport. If you happen to be flying from the UK, you'll find 11 airlines offering flights to Alicante but just 2 flying to Valencia.
Whilst not wishing to prolong the issue, I'm more concerned with the ridiculous figures you have been given than I am about TD's. The true figures for 2012 are these -
Alicante - 8,855,441 passengers, 62,468 flight operations, 2,525 tonnes of cargo.
Valencia - 4,752,020 passengers, 59,824 flight operations, 11,125 tonnes of cargo.
Destinations - Alicante - 97, Valencia, 58.
Passenger figures for 2013 -
January - Alicante - 431,743 Valencia - 263,491.
February - Alicante - 449,683 Valencia - 264,267.
Goodnightmoon's command of Spanish should have told her that the figures she has given you for Jan/Feb are NOT flights but tonnes of cargo. These figures confirm, of course, that when it comes to cargo ONLY Valencia is, indeed, the busier airport.

Alicante Airport is definitely closest. Its just over an hour and ten mins away.

As to airport size - there is physical size and number of flights.
