Where to go in September? (Europe)?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
Hello!

My mom and I have already bought the tickets to Milan, September 18, and a return ticket from Dusseldorf, September 29, (because we were going to see a family member, but it turned out that he will be returning sooner than we thought ;\ we can't change the tickets).

Sooo, any advice? Which cities should we visit, what should we see? Which cities do you think that are the most beautiful? We've already been to Verona, Venice, Rome, Barcelona, Paris (but wouldn't mind going again, of course;D) Preferably somewhere that isn't expensive to go to, I'm guessing airlines like Easyjet, Vueling, Ryanair are the best choices rather than going by train, right?

Any help would be appreciated!

thank you! ^^

September is a great time to visit Verona and Venice. From there, you could take the train to Vienna, then to Salzburg and on to Dusseldorf. You'll be too late for the Historical Regatta in Venice and the Chess Spectacle in Marostica, but the usual tourist attractions will be open. Since you've been to both Verona and Venice, you could also consider going to Florence Lago Garda and up to Trento and/or Bolzano and Salzburg on the way to Dusseldorf.

Oktoberfest will be running in Munich starting the 20th of September. It will be pretty crowded, but can be fun. However, reservations are hard to come by this late in the year. Even if you don't go, The trains will be very crowded so your options for getting to Dusseldorf will be more limited than usual.

This must be a Cotswolds reunion or something as I only live some 40 mins away from the Cotswolds and it's a lovely place to visit but would agree that you need your own transportation to really make the most of it.

I guess it depends on how long you have and how much money to spare as well.

a) Assuming you have a couple of days to spare and working on an average budget then I would suggest Amsterdam - lovely city and perfect for mini-breaks. Yes you have the stereotypes but it's so much more than that. Lots to see and do and the weather in Sept should mean you can get out and enjoy. The only downfall is that there is no budget airline that operates there so it would have to be by train or by KLM which is not really cheap (depends how far in advance you book both)

Barcelona is also something very different for you to see. Nice weather, lovely people, great food & wine and a lovely city to explore and with Vueling you could get a return for the £60 region http://www.skyscanner.net/transport/flig...

Looking at the routes which operate from Dusseldorf http://www.skyscanner.net/routes/duss/ro... and the price then I would also consider Vienna and Edinburgh as great mini-break cities. I've been to all four cities and have loved them all for different reasons.

Good luck :)

Above I see some great options! But be aware you need visa on arrival

In turkey, and it's not so european but is amazing.

I too am originally from the Cotswolds and are ao beautiful! But you need a car really.

I would suggest a number of options ( I myself travel a lot and stay in 5 star hotels to hostels!

September is a beautiful time of year, and if money isn't too much of an issue consider Scandinavia, stockholm and Oslo are so beautiful and offer much to do.

If money is more of a problem warsaw is amazing less cheap than it used to be but hugely fascinating and very westernised. Even places like Sofia which have 4 star hotels for £35 a night are up and coming places!

In my opinion the mid range leave you with three options, Frankfurt in west Germany ( not the east ) which is totally different to anywhere else in Germany, Bucharest which is truly beautiful but a bit out there for some travellers and finally Vienna.

It all depends on budget and time! My first choice, Stockholm Always

From Milan you can take the train to Basel Switzerland and enjoy one of teh most picturesque runs by train.

From Basel you can continue to Paris or to Frankfurt or Munich. From any of those you can go to Koln and on to Dusseldorf.

The option are many as long as you are prepared to move on during your stay.

The train route from Frankfurt to Koln is also a very picturesque one.

Turkey. DEFINITELY Turkey :) It is an AMAZING place for a holiday. Go search it up :)

UK!! UK!! Cotswolds! :p
