Why are Russians so hateful?

Before you get mad, note that I'm Russian myself.

I just never understood why Russia is so full of bigotry? It makes me so embarrassed to come from Russia. I love my country, but I can't stand these people. There are so many hateful comments about gays. It saddens me. I've never seen such level of hate and ignorance. What has become of our great country? People like these give such a bad reputation to Russia.

I'm ashamed and very disappointed.

I've been to Russia and spent a lot of time in eastern Europe. I've never met a Russian person I didn't like. You are too hard on your country. Yes, Putin's a sociopath, most world leaders are. There's bigotry everywhere. There are problems in Russia, as in every country and only Russian people can solve them.

The bear is usually no trouble except when it's being repeatedly poked with a stick. There is a lot of hypocrisy and double standards coming from the west towards Russia right now (you know: "look! Russia's war mongering and selling weapons on the black market" kind of thing). When there is a propaganda war against a whole country it makes people in that country defensive and nationalistic.

I am Russian as well. Life in Russia is tough. You gotta have tough skin to survive. Many times, many Russians will sound a little more rude than people in the West, but its how it is. Even those Russians who left Russia for the West and somehow returned have tough have adjusting to Russia, because they are used to much easier life in the West.

Historically, it was isolated from the West and its understandable why many Russians would have resentment of Western culture. Russians generally don't care how West feels about them and those Russians who support Western values are often branded as traitors. With recent surge in Russian nationalism promoted by their government, that hatred of the West has increased.

Shhhhhhh.dont say negative things of your country.good and bad is everywhere.i also love russia.a very beautiful language, fantastic culthurals, great history and so on..

If you are a russian then tell me is it true that some russians are aryans?

As the word aryan i mean the same race as germans got

If you're Russian-American (which you seem to be), you're not Russian and you don't get to be embarrassed on our behalf. It does not concern you. Russianness is not a feather you can wear on your American hat. If I'm wrong and you're an actual Russian, shouldn't we be discussing this among ourselves?

What you say does not just happen in Russia. Think about the absurdities you hear from some Americans (Ted Cruze is a case in point). Those do not reflect the way all Americans think. I am also ashamed of the bigotry of the Front National people in France. But again they are a minority.

May be, because russians have unique posibility - to speak what we think and to call a spade a spade. And we use the posibility. If homosexuality is disease, then we speak, that gays must be isolate and cure in speacial medical establishment.

And i ashamed for such people like you - that we can't you as cure as kick out from the country.

As an outsider looking in, I think that a lot of Russians are still coming to terms with the break-up of the USSR. Your national identity has been harmed and people look to express their hatred and anger without being critical of Russia itself.

Your political situation doesn't help either. Oligarchs, a special elite with all of the money - that kind of situation is going to cause a lot of resentment. There's no effective way to protest about the government, so the hatred gets directed elsewhere.

"but I can't stand these people." - and then you talk about other people, whom you see as hateful.

The difference is in Russia it is normal to say directly what you think, it is wrong to smile in person and then go to complain or make something other negative behind person's back, etc... Negative side is you think it is "hateful" approach.

In some other countries you have to keep your mouth closed, "keep appearance". But negative side of this approach is you do not know what to expect from person, you do not know what person thinks.

You, probably smile with your parents and their friends, your Russian relatives, even if they say something completely wrong from your point of view. You never argue and don't say directly what is on your mind. But after that you write to unknown people on Yahoo how much you hate that culture.

Hypocrisy is not better than direct unpleasant speech in any way. They are just different sides of the same human nature.

"What has become of our great country? " - nothing. Just you are too far from cultural norms of different for you culture (even if you call it "our").

For Russian person "bitter truth is better than sweet lie", people expect direct expression of other's point of view. Which is rude for you.

For you "keep your friends close and your enemies closer", be nice in person despite your true attitude. Which is hypocrisy for Russians.

PS: for example, you can see immediately, that you have nothing common with Dmitry. You would not waste your time smiling and talking about weather or sport. You know his position immediately and would just forget about his existence and spend your time on those, who share your views on the world. And when you see him you would go to the other side of the street. Majority in your country would never say such things in public. But they would take anti-depression or anger-control pills by kilos, and eventually some of them would take a gun and express all the hatred they were storing for years when you don't expect it.

I knew a gay man from Tomsk. I even met him personally. He seemed normal to me, and had my wife not told me, i would never have guessed he were gay.

I suppose the "new" gays want to flaunt their lifestyle in public. Judging from the "closeted" man i knew, these open-air gays are doing something NOT accepted.

I assume you are in USA. Y! is not as popular (much) elsewhere. What treatment would a man get if he said to you "I like sex with girls". "Don't you?" Their (private parts) are so good!" This should creep you out. So imagine a conservative minded Russian seeing two young men holding hands and kissing, tongues and all? I suppose HE would be "crept" out!

I guess you are talking about Russians who were born in 1945-1955.Yes ,those crisps are haters.
