Hmmm, because Turkey has an expansive allure to people to travel there. I want to travel there too.
See for yourself what Turkey has to offer travelers... :-)

I found out that Turkey has ski slopes too :-) Yay! Some of us like far away places (to non-locals anyways, its a venture afar).

The history there is all most too much to imagine. I can see why college students travel there. Like for instance the Derinkuyu Underground City, I believe it is in Cappadocia. That's bizarre amazing! Yep, I want to see that in person.
Hello, its a beautiful country. I'm thinking of the Dolmabache Palace. Me thinks they spared no expense! That's elaborate Ottoman architecture. The Basilica Cistern is so bizarre awesome (pretty sure its in From Russia With Love as a location spot). I can keep going...the Grand Bazaar,Topkapi Palace, Aya Sofya. I know those are top typical sites. I wonder why! They're stunning! I have no idea what the nightlife is like there, but its got to be good given the atmosphere. Hey, I learned all of this in college thanks to an English professor who never ceased to mention his travels there. I agree with him, this place should be on the travel list. I guess they're going to Turkey because someone suggested it, so they booked a trip.
I've noticed an influx of American college students in my city (Copenhagen) lately as well. I presume they're exchange students given that the new semester has just begun.
They can afford to now, times were tough for a few years and travelling was a luxury few could afford. But due to improvements in the American economy, people can afford to travel now. Which is good for them, and good for people in the countries they travel to.
Cheap
Same reason so many people from the UK do, and why so many people buy holiday homes there. Amazing beaches, scenery and historical sites. Friendly people, good food and value for money.
