There aren't ANY US bases in the UK.. There are RAF Bases that have USAF units and commands stationed on them, however. They are there because the UK wants them there. Not only does it help provide extra security for the UK but it gives the US a giant stationary aircraft carrier (Britain) just off the coast of Europe should it be needed for anything.
Also 'tags' are meaningless on YA, especially when you dont even tag it correctly. Nothing you wrote has anything to do with the Army or US Army.

UK is part of NATO. USAF keep aircraft in UK as defence against any aggression from the east (mainly Russia). The airbases are safer than mainland Europe.
They keep aircraft mainly at RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall. However, Mildenhall is due to close.
Largely because of the Cold War - the UK provided a handy place to be closer to the Communist bloc and the UK welcomed the support. The need is no longer there so most of them have closed. There used to be some close to me (which can be the only possible reason why we have a local Mormon church!) and they have been converted to housing estates.
