Why do people idolize royalty in the UK?

Posted at: 2015-06-30
Some people idolize them mainly due to their constitutional figures. Whilst many countries have become republics, removing monarchs from power, the Westminster system utilises democracy, whilst honouring the historic nature of royalty.

However, in a modern celebrity sense - yes there are a lot of people idolizing them in that sense. But on the other hand, there are many other Brits who honestly do not care about royalty - and much like myself, rarely notice we have monarchy until a birth, death or random thing pops up.

What is interesting is that a lot of Americans, especially those with British heritage, are massively idolizing the royal family. However, the general consensus of most Brits is that they are a tourist trap, but they are also incredibly good at promoting Britain abroad - especially for trade delegations.

We have been worshipping our royalty since before Christian times and making idols of them in a far more serious and intense way than contemporary Americans idolise pop stars. We invest a great deal of spiritual and psychic energy in royalty as embodiments of the earth, the land, and the people. It actually does have a psychic effect and, even if you cannot accept that, it certainly has a cultural and psychological effect. Furthermore, the way that royalty breed intensifies the connexion to the nation. There are several books bearing the title "Lammas Night" by several different authors, but the one by Katherine Kurtz is actually about this and well worth reading as it explains perfectly the people's relationship with their royalty.

Because the royalty is royalty. It's like the U. K. version of celebrities in America. Royalty is U. K.'s leader. The only current royal the U. K. does not like is Prince Charles.

I think that most people in the UK simply regard the Royals

as the first family with H M The Queen as Head of State.

The younger royals, William, Kate and Harry seem to have

taken on celebrity status due to their more relaxed and

approachable nature and have become part of the Hello

magazine readers celebrity fodder. The masses will often

fawn over anything that takes their mind into fashion and

fantasy.

If you count the amount of tourists in the 'adoring crowd' at

royal public events, the USA is highly represented at idolizing

them.

SOME people idolize royalty. Many people think the royal family are anachronistic parasites.

We don't. It's just what's there, it's fun, and it gives us a non-political head of state. Which is a helpful and bonding thing. Respect because of their position, yes. Idolise, no. Probably you have to be British to really "get" it. A royal event is something we can all unite around and enjoy.

I rather go along with the satirical magazine "Private Eye", which after Prince George was born, came up with the front page cover headline "Woman Has Baby". OK, he's going to be king one day (probably after I'm dead) so this is a significant event, but really, that's about it, isn't it? I look forward to what they will come up with in the next issue now he has a sister!

The public is interested because of the complicated financial agreement the royal house has with the government with the sovereign grant, duchy of Lancaster and Duchy of Cornwall. Their is additional extra costs like security that the royal family gets in addition as well. Since you can't legally abolish the royal family but people have to pay for the lifestyle they are accustomed too ie royal tour holidays, million dollar palace renovations people have an interest in them. It why people would like a few public appearances from the latest generation of royals because the Cambridge's in particular get a lot of government funding yet have no government role. It makes them look like takers or as they are often referred to as scroungers in the media where people can speak freely without childish tactics used on this American website of removing answers and questions.

I'm British and I respect the Queen and the Royal Family, I hope the Queen lives for many more years, but to say I idolize them is pure rubbish. The Queen is someone who was forced into a job to protect parliament from abusing its powers on the British people and for reasons like that I respect. I would never die for her, but I will feel very upset when she dies.

Intelligent people Like me dont idolize anyone we are Just Interested and as a Royalist i enjoy reading what they are doing

People who love celebrities also tend to start loving UK ones. It's a mental disorder.
