Why does Catalonia wants to separate from Spain?

Different culture, different language, fiercely independent nature, Catalunya has never felt that they should be part of Spain.

The fact that EVERY region of Spain has a different culture, and a couple of others have different languages, seems irrelevant, as does the fact that the region has been part of Spain since before it WAS Spain!

The money that comes into Spain is mostly from Catalunya and Euskadi (also separatist) and they feel like they are carrying the rest of the country, economically.

Whether that is TRUE or not is also irrelevant.

Guiri: in the last elections of the Catalan Parliament most seats were for pro-independence parties, you should know that if you live in Catalonia, in Barcelona, like me.

Catalonia is a 1.000 years nation with its own language (Catalan), its own culture and identity. The tensions with Spain date back from 1714, when our institutions were suppressed by the force of arms and they were not re-establish until 1980. Catalan is nowadays official, too, and however, we want to leave Spain.

I would write a book about it but basically: Spain (at least its governments) have tried to supress all the languages within Spain which are not Spanish, but they have not achieved it with Catalan. Most Spaniards hate Catalonia because we stick to our identity and don't feel Spanish but at the same time they don't let us leave. Why? Because Catalonia (along with another region, the Basque Country) is the wealthiest and most industrialized territory in the Iberian Peninsula, and of course Spain needs our taxes.

I am Catalan. I don't feel Spanish, I want the independence of Catalonia within the European Union. I don't care if we will be a small country. Holland or Norway are also small countries and they are satisfied being like this.

Greed mainly. (They think that they will be richer if they are independent.)

And the romantic dream of a stateless nation.

They have forgotten that many Spanish people would boycot their goods and that since the independence nonsense has started, Catalonia has dropped from the richest area in Spain to the fourth richest (GDP per capita).

Anyway the people of Catalonia said 'NO' to independence at the last elections.

We would be back to the 1930s before we knew.

now is the payback time of spain for torture and exile to muslims

because they like sandwiches

I mean, Spain is small enough. At this rate, if every country starts breaking up into smaller ones, they all will suffer. Plus, the extra money spent on bordee policing.

So why does it want to get separated?
