Greece is not the only EU country with debt. Almost all have some debt, some, even with lager than Greece's.
Your grasp of what the EU is and does seems very tenuous .
Greece received vastly more than that amount in infrastructure grants , typically having to find only 15% , 20% , 25% of the capital costs of those projects .
Sure , it is regrettable that Greek politicians opted to borrow to fund those contributions and it was also regrettable that many of the projects were of dubious value , and over-priced , and that many Greeks were guilty of corruption in carrying them out , but that is a fault of the Greek system , the only thing the EU can be accused of is that it trusted what Greeks were telling them .
And not all the money was stolen or wasted , the money was mostly used for long term assets , like the new Athens airport , the Athens Metro , Tram and light rail system , the improved railways , the new motorways , the new ports , the Ro-Antiro bridge , and so on .
Greece went too far , too fast , and weak national financial and audit administration allowed a fair degree of waste and corruption .
None of that was the fault of the E U .
Greece is now paying the price of it's binge , but eventually the hangover will end .
When it does it is important that this never happens again .
Bit of a slip-up. Something similar bound to have happened at some point. Can't be helped. No use crying over spilt milk. Least said soonest mended.
Because Greece is a holiday resort for all europeans
