If you take away those two regions, we find that Spain is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things in Europe.
Spain owes its success to talented Basques, Catalans, a few others and, above all, Italians. Italian engineers, generals, architects, etc. made the Spanish empire possible. Today, Catalan innovation and tax money is making Spain possible. lol And Catalonia was the first region in Spain to undergo some kind of an industrial revolution.
Magellan was Portuguese. His assistant was Basque. Blaz de Lezo was Basque. Alessandro Farnesio was Italian like Columbus. Nuff said.
Btw,By looking, I can't tell the difference between Latinos and Spaniards. But the difference between Spaniards and Italians is like the difference between French and Saudis. That drastic, imo.
Spain doesn't look like Europe either. It's an arid desert landscape with rudimentary buildings built rather recently and in a haphazard fashion.

Racial inferiority complex to countries such as France, England, Germany and most northern countries. Similar problem to Italy, if you can't love yourself, how can you be tolerant to other races/which happen perhaps to be darker and also have latin features)
Thats why many Spanish are eager to treat nordic foreigners and tourists as some kind of super starts or gods, but act like complete assholes to south americans, morocans and even Rumanians.
Also to another Spanish if they happen to look exotic, as myself.
Pathetic, sad, but its real. Some can deny but its a fact. Some places its more obvious than others
Big cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia are full of racist and idiotic pricks and north of Spain also(except Vasc country which happens to be very open minded).
All said, there are nice people everywhere too, just depending on how you look, on where you come from, you will find more or less of a good friendly attitude.
If you are blonde you can come here and feel really nicely special.
Some people will say what I said here is utter trash, very unfortunately, as 2014 this sad facts are very accurate although many Spaniards would deny, facts speak for themselves.
It isn't spain that is racist, it depends on the region and with whom they are talking. For example, the Catalans are racist with the portuguese because they envy us because they want to be independent like us, but on the opposite, we and the galliceans just get along very well. It depends mainly in the region and in the people mate, don't judge the nuestros hermanos like that :)
That's just not true. I'm from Barcelona and those statements are generalized and completely stereotyping... No one in my environment is that way, and I do know a lot of people!
I don't know why they are so racist :( I'm asian and whenever I'm watching anything asian my spanish friends and other european friends are always saying things like "Wow they're so ugly" "Why would anyone ever date someone like that?" and worst of all make slanted eyes and say "CHING CHONG CHING CHANG"
I think it's europeans in general. (ALL of my european friends do this; Spanish, German, Swiss, Italian and French.)
I had a friend from Galicia tell me they were extremely intolerant torwards black and latinos which I kind of knew already, but he even said people in Spain don't like each other for example Catalans don't like Galicians. In many parts of Spain they feel embarrassed that people speak other languages.
