I understand the Greek cypriots hate us.
I don't want any unpleasant experiences
I don't speak Greek
No, sure isn't half of Cyprus Turkish anyway?
If you check your passport it says you are British - that's all anyone needs to know about you.
It's the self appointed political elite who seek to divide the people and thus rule over them and in order to do so they first spread hate about the ethnic origins and differences of the people and go on about the religions of the people.
No such divide and rule is allowed here in democratic UK - where the people are free to say and do exactly as they like, so long as it's not breaking the law.
I do not think you'll have any problem in Cyprus.
Okay - this link gets you all you need to know on the political front in Cyprus plus relations between both sides etc.

Now here's a nice surprise - a lecturer from Cambridge has recently re-discovered a group of ethnic Greeks living in Turkey, all of whom still speak a form of Classical Greek which is supposed to have died out 2,000 years ago.

Racially the Greek and Turkish Cypriots all look exactly alike. They have been intermarrying for centuries. The only difference may be what they wear. The Greek women have a far more liberal policy on skin and nudity. Topless sunbathing is common on the beaches at Hagia Napa and Famagusta. If the Turkish men wear a Fez like they do on Anatolia they will stick out like sore thumb.
Greek Cypriots do not hate individual Turkish people. They hate the Turkish government for having to abandon their homes and property when Turkey invaded. My mother's family is from the north and never had any issues with her Turkish neighbors. But she's still bitter because her family lost everything when they were forced to move south after the Turkish partition.
As for looks, you can't tell the difference between a Greek or Turkish Cypriot by looking at them. It's their name that tells you what a person is, not their looks. It's an island and people have been intermarrying for centuries.
No you will not have any problem .Since border is open people mix on both sides without any incident .Or at least I have not heard of any . It is governments that is spreading hate for whatever agenda .People just want to enjoy themselves and have a good time .Just go and you will have a good time.
You will not face any problem as long as you are not provocative in your ways. By that I mean, as long as you do not openly provoke, e.g. waving a turkish flag, or wearing clothes with slogans on them, you do not have to worry.
