Forget booking agencies, call the hotels direct. And try Cheap Flights online.
It depends where you want to go. I recommend googleing for locations you want to go to and booking direct. If you have kids, the cheapest (and easiest) is to rent a flat rather staying in small hotels. Especially if you are traveling for 6 weeks, you really want to have a kitchen and some space to feel more at home. As for package holidays, well, we tend to avoid them, so I cannot really recommend any sites for that (Not that they are bad - I just haven't used them enough to know).
We normally go with first choice if we are booking a package holiday (AI). To be honest though, if your not going AI it's better to do it yourself. Book flights with the likes of easyjet or jet2 and then use the likes of owners direct to book an apartment.
It completely depends on where you want to go, how long for, whether you want to book a last minute deal or book well in advance...

hi there I would like to know where people can get the best deals on package holidays, I usually book with Thomas cook, typical family holiday, 2 Kids one in school so will be booking during 6 weeks holidays (most expensive time) hopefully find kids go free places, full board.
