Which brings me to the Munros. A Munro is a Scottish mountain over 3,000 feet high, and according to the Scottish Mountaineering Club, there are 282 of them.
Now having them listed in that way, you can guess what happens next... people who are enthusiastic or mad enough (according to what you think of them) take this as a challenge to climb every single one. Over 4,000 people have achieved this. And at least one dog - the first person to do it, Hamish Brown, took his dog on a round of the Munros. And so there is also a record for "bagging the Munros" in the fastest time.
Yes, many - the ten highest mountains in the UK are there.
Yes, as Clive said you can walk up the likes of Ben Nevis (mainly in the summer) but he should have added that although they are not high compared to The Rockies etc they are every bit as deadly, especially in the winter. The weather can change in an instant from being a beautiful sunny day, to a blizzard blowing in. Many a time (even in summer) Mountain Rescue has been called out to rescue foolish walkers who go up there with a t-shirt and sandals on!
Yes there are many mountains found on the Isle of Skye, the Cairngorns and in the Highlands of Scotland
