Despite recent struggles, I think it is a great country. Abundant sunshine, picturesque islands, historical and cultural significance, and welcoming people make it a winning destination.
Athens is the cutting edge, with the Acropolis and the lovely area of Plaka; but each of the islands has its own character and identity. I would also like to add that behind Athens is an entire country which people largely forget about. It has been largely unconquered by tourism, and so you don't get as many crowds. Places in the interior of the county still retain a very authentic look and feel about them.
And in spite of recent troubles, I think the country is slowly getting back onto its feet again. They have voted in an anti-austerity government, who will probably renegotiate deals, meaning that more public money will be on offer to invest in public services, and develop areas which sorely need it.
But it needs tourists. People like you, so go and visit the best known places, and the lesser known places.
Greece is very beautiful too bad it has many old people in it and young people leave the country.

How can you ask if a COUNTRY is nice or not. In every country there are both good and bad people and both the things you would like and the things you wouldn't.
So in MY opinion, yes Greece is a very nice country with a lot of warm and pleasant people, and with history, culture, and tourist attractions in abundance.
You'll hardly regret the decision to visit it, if you make it.

Very nice country and one of great contrasts . I must have been there for holidays 50 times in the last 30 years and still have loads of things left to see and places to visit .
I like greek women/girls the food and my fav islands are Crete and santorini and milos
