which accent is the best??AMERICAN or BRITISH?

British

Which accent? There is NO SUCH THING as a "British" accent.

There are several hundred distinctive accents in Great Britain and at least three discrete languages. They are as different from each other as the miriad of accents in the USA.

For example, if you compared a person speaking from Liverpool with someone speaking from Penzance then you would think that they are speaking totally different languages. A Scotsman living in Stornoway (also a town in Britain) would be almost unintelligable to someone living in London. In fact, London contains speakers of dozens of accents - all claiming to speak English.

So please do not patronise either the British or the Americans. We DO NOT all speak like Hugh Grant or Mary Poppins. Do some proper reseach before you ask such a generalised question.

Neither. They're just different. And in any case, there isn't just one of each.

The UK in particular has hundreds. I can usually tell roughly where someone is from as soon as they start talking, unless they have the "standard" Received Pronunciation. Liverpool is a definite example of an accent - or more properly group of accents - so distinctive you can't mistake it for anything else. A Brit wouldn't, at any rate.

People from Wales are unmistakable too and there's a reason for that - they have the Welsh language. A native speaker of Welsh (about 20% of the Welsh DO speak it) will naturally, when they speak English, have that unmistakable "sing-song" in their voice.

So the question doesn't really work.

American and British both are good accent.

but USA country likes American accent and Indian likes British.

British.

It very much depends upon what you wish to do or sell. For example, here in UK there are lots of American actors who do voice-overs for TV ads for British products. Why is that? Because the right American accent can often be reassuring - this then helps the viewer decide etc.

But then along comes someone who spoils it all.

This is how it is supposed to be done.

Listen very carefully to the above, because Winston wastes no time in explaining his

own 'American' family - a very clever ploy but all based upon the truth.

London UK

What is an "American" accent- a person from the South Sounds different from one from Boston or California

What is a "British" accent? a person from Liverpool sounds different than one from London or Devon or Yorkshire

This stupid question again.

There is no such thing as a British accent.

What a dumb question. Yanks and Brits have different regional accents
