Seems like a stretch to say we are obsessed... Some people might be but we don't all go round think about becoming knights, building castles and saving maidens.
They were our formative years for the modern nation that we are today. Not everyone obsesses over it. Just as I suspect not every American obsesses over the American Revolution.
We are not obsessed with it but that period produced some interesting history and outstandingly beautiful architecture, as in Ludlow for example

Britain are much more interested in Napoleonic era, and the colonial years that followed.
