why do turkish guys stare so much?

This year i finally visited istanbul and borsa in turkey. I stayed in istanbul most of the time and it was lovely but what i realized were that the guys there are very flirtatious and.. A little shameless when it comes to staring and hollering. Im 15 years old and i live in dubai so it was strange when they stared so much. I mean, i wasnt wearing reaveling clothes. Just a tshirt and jeans. I mean dont get me wrong being stared at by guys (especially good looking ones bc turkey is loaded with them) is nice but intimidating sometimes. idk why they stare im not gorgeous or anything just very average. Sometimes even women look? Its kind of uncomfortable and i was wondering why they do this? Thank you xxxxx

I'm a 16-year-old Turkish girl living in Istanbul. In Turkey, many people stare at strangers and it is considered acceptable. I think the reason for that is Turkish society is curious about other people. Even if you're average looking and wear casual clothes, you'll be stared at. If you ask my opinion on that, I get very annoyed by this constant staring. I try to avoid wearing eye-catching clothes because some men behave very uncivilized when they see attractive young women. Hollering is a common practice. I agree that it's very uncomfortable for women, but men consider it as a way of complimenting. Staring at strangers is so common that it has become a part of Turkish culture.

Turkish people stare because they are curious.

In Turkey it isn't considered rude to stare.

People there stare without thinking anything of it.

They especially stare at foreigners, because they are curious.

They aren't trying to annoy you or make you uncomfortable,

they probably don't even realize that they are staring.

People in Turkey just stare.

They are not aware of that.

Not only they stare, if they can they talk to you, they do.

Didn't they try to ask you questions in broken English?

I'm Turkish.

An American friend of mine got into a delirium at the number of people who kissed her daughter, embraced her, gave her candy, tried to talk and stuff, but the fact is those people were just acting normal.

According to their standards.

Different cultures have different norms or standards about things like staring. Not to overgeneralize, but in some cultures such as Turkey it's more common and socially acceptable to stare. In other cultures, it's not.I don't know how it is in Dubai, but you obviously came from a culture where it's not considered as acceptable.

Hope you enjoyed Turkey, though. It's one place I've never visited, but hope to.

its normal. we stare a lot. like amada said.. not just foreigners we stare each othe too :D yes, its annoying :D

Are you blonde by any chance?
