Generally Adsense requires you to own the domain name in order to get an account, Google's own Blogger.com is an exception, you can earn revenue from a totally free blog, they also have no paid upgrades, but you can add your own domain name obtained elsewhere.
Most free hosts make money from paid upgrades or from ads they add onto your site, many like Squidoo and Hubpages have ad revenue sharing schemes (they actually may be splitting clicks) when you add a custom domain on Wordpress.com they lose the ad revenue, hence your having to compensate them.
Only big brands need to bother with extra domain name protections, your more immediate convert is whether to use a normal open registration where anyone can see your name address, email and phone or to use a "privacy" registration proxy to conceal your info, this service effectively owns the name, so there are legal circumstances like your failing to renew where they can take over control of the name.
If you go through a community like Wealthy Affiliate, they explain all that in detail. They will answer every question, but I will answer briefly.
1. Wordpress is a free host with Wealthy Affiliate.
2. Ad sense does require a website, and they review it for a decent amount of time before they accept.
3. Like Jake said, you usually need your own domain.
4. if you go through namecheap.com, they offer 1 year protection for free with a domain purchase.\
5. you can sign up but it is basically pointless unless you have a great deal of readers.
6. Some programs require your own website and some don't. I dont think Amazon requires a website. I think that just depends on the affiliate program.

Hello there. I am starting a website (a personal blog) and thinking ahead.. want to be able to access AdSense/ or some sort of ad revenue in the future as well as possibly having a YouTube channel later on if desired. I would greatly appreciate your insight and will be forever thankful for your time!!!
Questions:
1. If I were to do all three- my blog, AdSense, and YouTube.. where would be the the best place to set up my blog so that it would all flow & work together easily? Should I sign up for WordPress, Blogger, or start my own website on something else?
2. If I sign up for "free" WordPress I read that you can't use advertisements without purchasing your own domain..Is true? I also read that they don't allow AdSense but they have their own ad revenue program. Is this true?
3. If I sign up for "free" Blogger can you use AdSense on your blogspot website or do you need to purchase your own domain?
4. Do I need to purchase the protection option when buying a domain?
5. Do I sign up for AdSense right away or do I wait to gain a certain about of viewers?
6. Can I contact businesses to add pay per click advertising or join an affiliate network if I have WordPress/blogger.. or are there restrictions & I would need to have my own site in order to have free range like that?
