Advice with moving out for the first time?

Look at your parent's bills to see what they usually pay out every month for electricity, gas, water, garbage removal, tv, internet, food, car expenses plus gasoline and insurance, entertainment, incidentals, toiletries, etc. Add in start-up costs such as furniture costs, towels and bedding and whatever monthly rent you expect to pay. I had around $8000 saved up and was comfortable with that amount, plus I owned my own car outright (no payments). If you live in a cheaper area of the country such as Alabama, you could get by on less, but if you are going to be living in an expensive place such as New York City, $8000 wouldn't get you very far. Add up all probable costs and see what you'll need.

Hey guys, i am viewing a bedsit on saturday, its 300 a month. Small bedroom/living area, a kitchen, and bathroom. Not big or luxurious but its cheap and i only earn 800 a month at the moment. . Have you any advice on moving out for the first time? And do you advise it? surly ill have enough money, (which is what people are saying i dont have enough of) HELP

It sounds like if rent is that cheap (and if utilities, sewer, water, and garbage aren't too expensive) then you should be able to live on your own. Hopefully you will be able to soon make more than $800 a month, but in the meantime, you should start saving as much money as possible.

Start limiting any "fun" or extra things that you would normally buy, because having such a sharp decrease in the amount of expendable income you have can definitely come as a surprise, even if you are prepared for it. Learn how to cook - it will actually save you money. Websites such as allrecipes.com have lots of easy recipes for new cooks if you don't know how to cook. Don't take too much stuff with you!!! I cant tell you how much stuff you think you'll want, then end up overloading your place. If you don't have furniture, browse garage/yard sales and thrift stores.

Other than that, just be safe and smart!

How much do you have saved for all the things you'll need to get started?

Don't figure on having cable internet or a car, and figure on eating a lot of ramen noodles.

good luck
