Apartment the smallest you can find like a studio. Everything cost much more than you would guess so keep everything as low as you can. Career in small town might not be what you do for the next 40 years so keeping it flexible is important until you see what is happening. The second year you can do something else.

Until you have been around a while you won't understand the problems that come up and how to handle them like a roommate moving out owing rent or a landlord that evicts because you sublet without it in your lease.
I'm 23, moving to a small town to start a career which starts at the end of July, and I've never had my own place. Apartment, duplex or house?
