If the settlement is enough to buy I say go for it. Why pay out money every month if you don't have to?!
I would advise you buy, because once you buy it's yours! The only people who can kick you out are the bank but they have to have a proper reason. Get the mortgage as low as possible and purchase it. When you purchase it it's yours, when you rent you're having to pay the money you could use for a mortgage every six months and even then the owners could throw you out on the street with no questions asked, and if you don't pay they can take it to the hight court or the supreme court and you can get sent to prison with all the nut jobs and killers who will do whatever they can to get some food like eating you. So buy! Along as you can, if not rent when you have to.
