It's not for the mailman to decide you don't need it. They're paid to deliver it. If you leave it to them, they'll just decide everything addressed to you is junk mail. Is it really that big of an inconvenience for you to toss your own mail? The post man can't start tossing everyone's junk mail for them.
because it is addressed to you it is the law for them to deliver it. you could try contacting the company that's mailing the junk mail and try to get them to stop though.

I have a sign on my mail box that says " no junk mail please :)"
and its as if it says " give me extra junk mail"
