Can you cut down a tree in a rented property?

You are renting. You do not own the property. The only person that is able cut down any trees or permanently remove anything from the property is the owner of the property.

You might get permission of the owner to cut the tree down. In this case you would want to have the approval in writing, so you would not have potential future legal problems with the owner denying he gave permission for you to cut the tree down.

I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

"FIGHT ON"

No, only with the owners permission and then at your cost which would be over 300 quid, BUT in many areas' you cannot cut down a mature tree without permission from the local authority even when you own the property yourself.

UK - privately rented you need permission from owners, council or housing associating rented then yes you can as it will be your garden

Not without permission.

Only if you want the owner to sue you.

NO you cannot. The house, garden and tree belongs to the owner. You are renting the space to live in that is all.

UK

not legally, here.

could cost u 10,000s$

yeah u can if u have the permission of the house owner

Sure why not? It's your house to do whatever you want. Wait ... you're renting it - never mind.

you have to have the owners permission

My partner and I are looking for a bigger place to rent.

We found a place we like, but there is a huge conifer tree at the end of the garden.

If it were to be cut down, you'd get another 2 - 3 meters of garden space.

I don't want to jump in and rent the place if we can't cut it down. No good asking the estate agents to find out because they are pretty useless too.

leave it
