You don't say how many hours you'd be working, so hard to tell. Apartment leases are usually for 12 months anyway, so you'd be ahead to just stay living at home for the 10 months. There are many expenses that you aren't considering. Unless you have a couple thousand or more saved up to move, no you won't be able to.
You may not find a place with a 10 month lease even if you can afford it. Don't forget utilities and deposits, furniture and everything to make a home. What will you do with your stuff when you are done with your 10 months? Shipping and storage is expensive and living in a door you don't need an apartment full of stuff.
If you have only saved $900 while living free I don't see how you can even furnish an apartment while paying rent, deposits, utilities and buying your own food.
1. renting an apartment is not the same as buying a candy bar at the 7 eleven. You have to convince the landlord you are a worthy renter, sort of like when you take out a loan.
2. if your income is mostly from tips, you might have a problem documenting your income. the landlord will want to see proof of income but your tips won't be listed on your pay stub.
3. usually landlords will want you to rent for at least 12 months.
4. how old are you? sounds like you are around 18 which might make it hard to rent.
most places want a year lease, so right there means that you can't live in this apartment.
10 months is nothing. I highly suggest that you work, work, work as many hours as you can and SAVE, SAVE SAVE.
Go to school and then worry about housing in a few years.
You should earn enough at Olive Garden to afford a $500 apartment.
It would depend on other expenses you have to take care of. See http://bitly.com/Zd7rQO for cost of living information.
I just got a job at Olive Garden (I also work at Lifetime Fitness in child care). Lifetime pays minimum wage so I wanted a better job. They told me people tip high at the one I'm working at and it gets pretty busy. (Either way I'll be making a lot more than I'm making at Lifetime). So I'm wanting to get my own $500 apartment here in NC (and yes I researched and there are cheap apartments here for $500) because I'm just feeling suffocated by my parents right now. We're moving to Texas in 10 months so I'll only be living here 10 more months and when we move to Texas I'm going to be transferring to a University living in dorms. I just want to know if the 2 jobs I have now will be enough to live in an apartment for 10 months? I pay $100 a month for car insurance and my phone bill put together, and $20 a week for gas. Are there any other costs I should factor in besides groceries? Will waitressing be enough to cover everything? (I also have $900 in savings).
