Charge long term girlfriend rent?

First let me say that you sound like a headcase. Why would you ask your girlfriend to move in with you and then charge her rent?!?!?! I mean WOW!!!!!!! Call me old fashion but if you are making enough money and can currently pay the mortgage why would you do that to a person you love. It would be the nice thing to do. Do you even love her??

"Extra body in the house". You sound selfish! If you do not like her to be around you maybe you should just not date her. Are you asking her to be there for your own gain!!! Are you trying to make a profit off of her?!?! You could ask her to move in and then just go play with yourself in the basement!!!

But definitely get a pet deposit because your a piece of **** and will stain the carpet.

Maybe ask her to contribute to some of the bills as its only fair. But why would you charge her rent in a house you own? She isn't a roommate she is a gf. Just saying!

Why aren't you having this discussion with your girlfriend?

My b/f has his own house that I live in. I do not pay him rent, nor do I pay for utilities however, I do buy all our groceries. We calculated the proportion that I bring in to what he brings in and split things up such that I am paying proportional to my income for our living expenses.

As it is his house, this means that as I am not paying for it, I have no claim to it. If you charge your g/f rent to pay your mortgage, this means that she's contributing to your investment.

BTW.....not all dogs are destructive and poop all over everything. Charge her pet rent or not. However, I probably would not be inclined to want to live with you myself.

Yes charge her what you would any other roommate. When I let my guy move in I computed his savings from not paying rent and utilities and then rounded up since we would use my furniture and appliances and men don't tend to buy soap, flour and other household things. So if an apartment would cost her $1,500 with utilities of 200 she would save 1,700 moving in with you I would charge her $900 assuming you provide all utilities and use your furniture she will save $800 by moving so still worth it.

Hey Joe...if you are asking her to move in with you, i don't think you should have her pay rent. especially if you own the house - what are you using the rent money to go to the casino?? lol just kidding joe. but i probably would charge a pet rent or have like a pet deposit or something...animals tend to destroy things and poo everywhere creating a mess...i dont think its "chivalry" of you to charge your long time gf..come on man thats a one way ticket to singles town...

I agree with others. This is your gf NOT the average roommate. She should pay 1/2 the utilities and help with food cost & general living expenses but that's it.

she needs to charge you to sleep with your nastiness

I have been dating my girlfriend for 3+ years. We are considering her moving into my place (which I own). I would like to charge her rent as I feel it is only fair. She will be increasing my utility bills and it will be an extra body in my house....i have a study and will be able to get away but she will still be there watching her shows and doing what she likes. She also has a dog. Should I charge pet rent?
