Cheap land in the US?

Rural Missisippi would be cheap.

Obesity over 40%, highest unemployment, worst schools, highest amount of welfare, etc, etc.

Consult a real estate agent to help you search.

Eastern Kentucky as well.

Very doubtful you will find property costing just $1,000 to $2,000 with utility hookups that is also near a decent sized town.

Rural West Virginia, Mississippi, Arkansas.

You might find electric; you probably won't find "utilities"

I'm looking to purchase an acre or two of land a build a small house on the property. My question is, where in the US would be the best place to do this? Ideally, the land would be $1000~2000 per acre, be no more than 45 minutes from a decent sized town, and possibly have utilities. Where, in your opinion, would be the place in the US to find a piece of land like I'm describing? I appreciate the help. Thanks.
