GIMP is an image editing program. It's not an image viewer or a "plugin". This is where you can get the real GIMP software: http://www.gimp.org
I almost downloaded that file as well! Somebody texted me on my phone but when I hit the link My phone was not compatible to see the pics - I tried the link on my computer but it said I had to download a plug-in to view the files - I searched Safari and Firefox for the plugin and there was none available and that is when I became suspicious! I googled "pixsend" I found out it was a scam -The text came from this Phone Number 352-267-3517 Please Beware! BTW When I used Bing and Yahoo it did not show that it was a scam!
I had a similar situation, except my computer locked up and this huge FBI Warning came up stating that suspicious and incriminating evidence was found on my computer. I had 48 hours to pay off a fine or be subject to a criminal investigation. I could not use my comp, at all. Finally, I did a system restore. But, from what I hear, once your comp has been hacked, there's no way to stop the person(s) from accessing info. You either need to wipe your computer and install a new anti-virus/protection program, or get a new comp. At least, that's what I was told after my experience.
Best option when this happens is to reformat the PC or on some laptops/PCs you can restore to factory default using a key combination on startup. You can use software to remove this but in my experience it doesn't always clean every part of it . When your credit card info and banking stuff is on the line better safe than sorry.
There are certain Plug-Ins that are not safe. You have to learn to properly screen all the software that you will download. There are certainly a number of links that will really help you install a good deal of software. But you have to learn to screen it well. Actually I was able to download not only one but five software I am now using for my business. For more questions or in anyway I could help you just email me at ajw.construction@yahoo.com (winnie)
You will find that code downloads more often contain adware which causes more ads to appear in your browser, not asw malicious as key loggers, but annoying. Removing the original installation will not always eliminate the infection, which can spread.
That FBI warning is a simple web page exit pop script and not an infection script.
Am i ok if i clicked on the link but didnt download anything?
Hyatt-I am having this problem now on my desktop! How do I do a system restore? I have tried but I can't even access that!
