Aaron, you don't really need to hire anyone these days to create a simple site and DO NOT use free hosting because it will look unprofessional and there may be security issues. Find decent shared hosting (Hostgator, Bluehost, Site5 all good), then use their one click install to install Wordpress. Locate a Wordpress theme you like to make it more personal. There are many Wordpress tutorials, but creating pages and posts is as simple as writing a word document. Wordpress is the most popular website creation script in the world and there are thousands of free plugins that allow you to add functionality. If you need help customizing wordpress, you can hire someone on the cheap using sites such as Odesk or Freelancer.com.

Hey Aaron,

I understand, the first couple of web pages I made were a joke. My biggest fear was that someone might actually see them. Go here; http://trks.us/s13056 This is a company I highly recommend. They have a video tutorial that walks you through the entire process of creating your own web page. And not to worry, it's completely free. They will give you a domain name of your choice, (unless you want something specific in a dot.com), and they will even host the page for you free. Take your time with it, and have fun. Don't be afraid to try new things, you can always go back and change it any time you want. And not just once, you can change it as often as you like untill you are happy with it. You can also go back to the instructional videos, back them up, you'll be fine, again, have fun.

Hope this helps,

Firstly I would suggest using a free host for your first website just so that you can get a feel for it.

Create your website about a topic you know alot about.

Try to keep it attractive and definately don't have too much happening on the landing page, this can turn visitors away quickly.

Know yourself and your skill level. Don't plan to provide tools and services you can't deliver.

Know your competition. If you don't have alot of money backing your site, you won't be able to create the next facebook.

Allow your site to evolve and grow. Don't try to make the best website in the world on your first day

WHen are are talking of creating a website, there are so many website, but you didnt indicate, we have webblogs etc http://www.cashdove.com
