Do post offices sell boxes and styrofoam?

Yes they carries bubble wrap and smaller boxes. Its cheaper to get it at walmart though.

Go to the UPS store or to Staples for a better selection.

What you want is bubble wrap and packing peanuts. Wrap your unit up in lots of bubble wrap, tape it, put it into a box that fits snugly but not tightly. If you have the original box it came in, even better. Then seal that box and put it into a much larger box on a layer of packing peanuts, surrounded by peanuts on all sides and with more peanuts on top. These should be more loose, but should definitely fill the box. Then tape it well shut, including the bottom seam and side seams. label it very clearly using an official USPS label(if you are going that route) or give the address to the UPS clerk. Insure it and make sure you get a return receipt from the buyer upon delivery.

You can see that you need to charge the right amount for shipping and insurance. Better not to have the buyer claim your item broke in shipping, or never arrived.

You can get free boxes at the post office, but not styrofoam. UPS Store has more packing materials.
