Does your landlord force inspections?

YES. Inspections twice a year are pretty standard and totally legal. Unfortunately some tenants are flat out pigs which can cause major pest control problems. You should be happy they check that. Yes you may be clean but if one of your neighbors is not wouldn't you rather they catch & correct the problem before you get roaches all over your place too?! This is all part of properly maintaining the property & protecting the tenants.

They are only looking for major house keeping issues. They do not care if your bed is made or if cloths are put away unless it is to close to the heater & is a fire hazard or something.

Of course it's legal. A property owner has the right to maintain and inspect their own property.

I once lived in an apartment building where the tenant across the hall was literally using the closet as a cat litter box. They literally just dumped cat litter IN THE CLOSET. No litter box.

Yes, there are reasons landlords "inspect."

It is perfectly legal for a landlord or his/her representative to inspect their rental unit, for safety, cleanliness, potential damage and if there is possible maintenance necessary, that is need of being performed..

Some landlords use a declining inspection schedule. If you are inspected twice in a certain period of time and no problems or potential problems exist, you would not be inspected for about 12 months or you might be given a written survey to complete.

These inspections should be a welcome idea. Any potential maintenance found might be repaired, thus put you in a position of getting, your deposit returned to you. This is a positive and your landlord is being proactive.

I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

'FIGHT ON"

Most landlord will do inspections every 4-6 months. And yes, checking housekeeping is normal. Nothing worse than a dirty tenant that attracts mice/roaches. As far as notice goes, states have different laws pertaining to notice time or if notice is even required.

The specific legality depends upon state laws and your lease agreement, assuming it conforms to state laws. Some states list specific reasons for which they are allowed to enter, without your consent, others give landlords a more general right to enter upon proper prior notice.

For instance, in NH, "No landlord shall willfully enter into the premises of the tenant without prior consent, other than to make emergency repairs." However, a tenant cannot refuse the landlord access at reasonable times, upon reasonable notice, to "perform reasonable and lawful functions commonly associated with the ownership of rental property." Your state laws may be substantially different.

Maybe it's 1 time per year since you've had 2 in 13 months.

It's normal, but I wouldn't worry over the bed not being made or a few dishes in the sink.

It is perfectly legal. The landlord gives you a 24 hour notice that he is entering HIS property. Once notice is given, you cannot refuse entry.

In case of emergency, fire, flood, vandalism, or other suspected illegal activities, no notice is required.

It's perfectly legal in the UK. If you want privacy you need to buy your own place.

It is both normal and legal

I've lived in this apartment for 13 months now and this is the 2nd time we've gotten notices posted on our doors about "inspections". They walk through and check housekeeping, smoke detectors etc.

Just curious if this is normal or even legal? They do give you 24 hour notice, but **** checking housekeeping? Just seems kind of odd to me. Does anyone else have to put up with this multiple times a year?
