Estate agent disclosed buyers address to home owner?

Hopefully, you apologized to the seller. However, the agent had no business giving your name or address

to the seller or anyone else.

This is not the type of agent anyone wants to deal with. Your information is private, until you have an accepted

offer to purchase and a closing date.

Maybe a breach of Data Protection, get yourself to Citizens Advice to see what they say before getting a Solictor involved.

Seems other answerer's are happy for randoms to knock on their door and be angry (could be random about anything).

Take this matter further to achieve what?

At the core of this is the fact that you were a no show and the seller was angry at you. Of course he should not have come to your house, that was very wrong, but unless there was a witness and he threatened you in some way you can't take any legal action against him. You can complain about the estate agent but what good would that do you? I do not know if they can or are allowed to disclose your name and address, would be worth finding that out before complaining.

If you had contacted the agent as soon as you realised you had missed the appointment and apologised this might have all been averted. Try and see it from the seller’s side. He may have taken time off work to stay in for your visit and you didn’t turn up – no call and no apology. How would you feel if that was you?

You should have apologised to the home owner on your doorstop and told him to eff off and threatened to report him to the police if he ever darkened your door step again. He must be desperate if he turned up at your front doorstep or maybe he is a psycho (there are lots of them about everywhere nowadays).

Next you can report the estate agent for unprofessional and unethical behaviour to both The Office of Fair Trading and then to the Property Ombudsman at the website below and hopefully one of them (if not both) will do something about it.

The agents were perfectly within their legal rights to disclose your name and address to the vendor. They work for the vendor, not for you!

You were the one at fault here so need to have a word with yourself about what an appointment is.

If you want to take the matter futher buy a diary and keep a note of where you should be and when, that should sort it.

It doesn't matter because you have probably now been labeled a time waster by the estate agents so you probably won't get offered any decent properties where the people really want to sell.

You apologise profusely to the seller.

I am so angry that estate agent disclosed my home address to the home owner whose property I was interested in. It just happened that I forgot to go down to view the property at the time I agreed upon( which I absolutely agree was my mistake)' but to my surprise the home owner knocked at my door with his dog and was so angry and intimidating. I am so angry the way it has been dealt with by both the estate agent and the home owners and I want to take this matter further. Can someone please shed some light as what's the best way to deal with it.
