How Do I Patent an Idea?

You cannot patent an idea; you can only patent an invention that is new and non-obvious. 35 USC 101, 103.

Copyright also does not protect any "idea". 17 USC 102(b).

You do not need a patent to sell an idea; you can do that with a simple contract. Actually GETTING the simple contract is often not that simple.

You can't patent an idea. It has to be developed into a product or a process, with a working model.

Applying for a patent is very expensive. It sounds like your idea is too vague to patent, but you could contact the http://www.uspto.gov/ patent office for more information.

*You only capitalize the first word in a sentence and proper nouns (names). thanks.

you give it to a big shot record producer and hope it reaches his bank account

Is it even possible or Necessary,To Patent an Idea?

I know it sound's Cliche' and Not very likely However, I have a simple Idea, More of a Marketing Idea/Service That Would not only Change the Music Business (Mostly Independent) .But Could make thing's Better for an individual Artist And/Or Band. Or even a Small business (Indy Record Label') It would cost Next to nothing,As Physical material Would be very minimal,Other than Time. I plan on getting other's involved once I have thing's "Legal" if it is even Possible What I need to Know is would I Need a Patent or a copy write and is it possible to even Submit an Idea that isn't a product? also I'm in Ohio
