I'll agree with Alan..Ebay started out as great place to sell off the "junk" you had or auction off the baseball cards you had when you were a kid that you had no use for anymore. I started dealing there buying and selling in 1999 and even considered quitting my "day job" as I was making more $ on there (for 2 or 3 hours work per day) at one point..I'm glad now I didn't . Over time Ebay really started skewing things in favor of the buyers. It kind of started going down hill when eBay bought Paypal..and eventually made it so you couldn't pay for anything with anything BUT Paypal-then they skewed the Paypal system opening the door to " Paypal charge back scams"( Google that ) .When they made it so sellers couldn't post negative feedback on buyers that brought "feedback extortion" (Google that too) to new highs and shortly thereafter increased listing fees, I decided enough was enough.
Basically now unless you're a really high-volume seller who can absorb the losses from all this crap(or sell in some niche where most potential buyers are likely to be fair and honest-whatever that niche "might" be ) it's best to avoid eBay IMO. If you have just "stuff" laying around you want to get rid of try Craigslist or look for a local Buy and Sell group on facebook.
For a start you need to read the section about getting started on Ebay. My tips are take a good photograph & list any defects clearly, if you sell an item that is not as described the buyer will demand their money back & Paypal will refund them you have no say in the matter. Always send high value items by trackable "recorded" delivery.
You charge shipping based on what it costs you to package & ship the item either using the regular postal service or a courier company. Your choice how to ship the item. I add on 10% to cover my time & effort this helps offset Ebay fees slightly. Package the item securely so it won't get damaged.
It is very easy sell items on ebay. You have to follow just three steps to sell items on the ebay. These are like just describe your item and photos, choose the price option for shipping, then confirm the received payment, send your positive feedback and send the item to your buyer.
As bad as selling has become on eBay, are you really sure you want to even start? The CEO of eBay does not want small sellers to even exist there.
I've been buying and selling on eBay since 1997. A year or two ago, I'd recommend selling on eBay. Today, with changes coming once again to kill off sellers, I recommend people stay away unless they really, really know what they are doing.
Never did it..wondering how to package, ship and how To know what to charge for shipping. Thankyou!
