How do you move into another state?

I currently live in PA, and I'm a dental hygienist. I want to move out to LA and I was wondering what are the steps I would have to take in order to achieve my goal?

Step one: Pack up all your stuff into boxes.

Step two: Decide whether you want to go drive there or fly there.

Step three: If you want to drive and the stuff won't fit in your car, then rent a U-Haul. If you want to fly, then buy an airplane ticket and arrange for someone to ship the boxes when you get an address in LA. If you want drive and the stuff will fit in your car, then just put the stuff in your car.

Step four: Start driving (to LA or to the airport).

Step five: When you get to LA, get a new driver's license and register your car.

Step six: Look for a job and either a house or an apartment.

Depends on how much baggage you have. It can be difficult to find a job in Dental Hygiene. I might fly out here and try to land a job before I moved. That could take several thousand bucks.

I drove here in 1970, looked for three months before I got a job (lived with relatives), got a job but had to show up in one week. Flew to PA in 1 day, bought a truck ($600) and rented a trailer in one day, loaded them and drove back to LA in 4 days. Rented and apartment on Sunday and started work on Monday.

You sneak across the state lines on a dark, moonless night. Be sure to keep the car headlights off, and do not step on the brakes and illuminate those signals. Jeez !!

How about having $10,000 for moving expenses. Then contact California to ask about their licensing requirements for dental hygienists. When you get there, get a new drivers license (and boyfriend - lol).

In the meantime, start trimming back your junk and belongings; and make sure you give 30 days notice to vacate your apartment. Rent a u-haul truck, or pay to have stuff shipped. Find someone to help you drive the trip. {Maybe your old bf so he can meet your new bf.}

You'll need a job first. And you had better be pretty fluent in Spanish if you plan to work in LA.

obviously you have moved at least once before in your lifetime, so you would do the same things you did then

moving from Pa to LA is simply a longer distance

you pack your things, cancel all your accounts where you are, arrange to ship your things, and either get in a car, use a bus, the train or plane to fly to your new location

hopefully you have previously made arrangement where you plan to move to have a place to live, got a job there and established some accounts, at least for utilities and a bank
