How much does it cost to maintain a house?

Posted at: 2015-03-04
Here in the U.S. the cost of properly maintaining a home is usually 40% of the annual mortgage payments. So if annual mortgage payments cost $12,000, the maintenance will cost $3,000. This does not mean $3,000 is spent every year to maintain the home.

Certain maintenance things must be completed weekly. Rubbish removal and lawn & garden maintenance are two examples. Other maintenance tasks such as paying the water and power bill occur monthly. Then there are the projects that happen every 5, 10, 20 or 30 years.

In time every house will need a new roof, new paint inside and out, new kitchen appliances, new flooring or carpeting, and plumbing issues will arise here and there. A homeowner can try to pay as they go or set aside money each month for the new paint job that will be needed 10 years later or the new roof 20 years later.

ask you parents - they will be the best ones for what stuff costs where you live

in what country u live?

it varies greatly.

your local library will let u learn , least u get burned.

here, your local housing costs ( apartment/house,

utilities, insurances, repairs) should b NO

more than 40% of your gross income b4 TAXES.

Depends on the size of the house, where it is, etc, how much you use in utilities, etc. Ton of factors.

There's plenty of research on this.

Im young and just thinking about the future so for those of you who own houses what is your annual income and if you live with someone else what is their income? Also how much is spent on everything besides the mortgage? Such as bills, food, wants and needs.
