With so many people in need arrange to sell or give usable items to charity. Let them come and take what they want. Then whatever is useful put on craigslist for free. Sure there will be garage-salers but at least it keeps stuff out of the landfill. People even want VHS players! They have a collection of VHS and they will use it as a spare. Tools are especially in demand. Fertilizer and garden chemical can go for free. Take a photo with your phone and post. But be careful regarding the address, take precautions to avoid break-ins. I never give people the actual address until they phone me that they are on their way. If it is in a suburban area where mail boxes are grouped at the end of a driveway I give them the range of numbers "look for the group of mailboxes at the curb w/ 1002, 1005 & 1006 Fig Street and phone me when you are there". What's left you rent a [smaller than before] dumpster and have it hauled off. So between giving to charity and craigslist those people will do the heavy work for you. Sure you will charge for your time babysitting craigslisters and charities but that is less effort than carrying stuff. Depends on the going rates where you live. I can pick up day labor for yard work for $15/hr. So I would pay someone responsible to coordinate your job $25/hr here in San Diego plus the dumpster.
Well I guess whatever you normally charge pr hr pr person times the amount of hrs it takes. You better not be throwing perfectly good furniture and household items in the dump. Work something out to sell it and take a share of that on top of your bill and give the customer the rest.
I can't believe YA erased my entire info to you....grrr....ok so I'll be brief then. Call Salvation Army or Goodwill and have them come get what they want, they will bring a truck and won't charge you. Then rent a U-Haul for like $20 a day plus gas and fill it and take it to the dump (you may need permission to dump that much or it might cost you extra so be prepared). When moving I've paid each man $100 and it only takes 1-2 hours to do (and the $100 each was for their time for two hours, gas to get there, and a tip) and a 6-pack. If the guys have muscles they will stack the things in their arms and take more out in one trip than you'd normally expect.
I think I would pay about $500.00 for that service.
A customer of mine had their parents die and asked me and one of the guys who works for me to empty out the house. She's already taken the things she wants saved. The stuff thats left is the furniture, couches, chairs, tables, beds, etc. It was a 2 bedroom house with an attic full of stuff, basement full of stuff, and a garage with some stuff in it. I figure I'll need a 40 yard dumpster between the stuff in the house, the roof work, and the yard clean up. Roof and yard are being done by someone else. In addition to the cost of the dumpster, what do I charge for me and the guy who works with me to empty the house, attic, basement, and garage? House is just shy of 1000 square feet. House is moderately full of stuff. Thanks for the answers!
