Zillow.com could help if in the US . Also take the lid off the water tank of the toilet and look for a date inside the tank or on the lid . This will tell you the date the toilet was made and give you an idea of the house age .
mine is 1931 and it looks a lot older....mine probably doesn't have original aluminum siding...nice stucco...and shingles
You can ask in related departments or old locals about the probable age of the house. If you get information then you know how old the house is. In case if you can't determine the approximate age of the house then inspect about it's current condition. That will help you to compare your budget with it's value and make decision easily.

doesn't look like a 40's house at all. but impossible to tell from a picture, you have no idea when it was remodeled. but that exterior would not be from the 40's, newer then that
I'm not sure as it doesn't appear to be in America and I don't recognize that style of work . . but if you are looking to buy . . the city should have the building information on record, and I would imagin you could plug in the address online and get the info from public records.
If you're in the UK I think they have a site called zoopla, to look it up and get home prices and such
the local building dept will have the information on the date it was built

I'm thinking of buying this house. However, not even it's owners are sure how old it is.
My guess is that it was built around the 1940s.
