I seriously doubt that Facebook messages constitutes a contract. A contract means a written document "wet signed" by both parties.
She had said she would be here for a couple years. I don't know if it said on the messages or not, I'll have to look but I'm pretty sure it did. She was only here for 11 months.
It would probably be treated the same as a verbal contract except that it is documented. I would take her to small claims court.
I had a roommate move. We had an agreement through Facebook Messages that she pay 100$ a month and half the electric. I kept track. She never hardly paid any. After multiple attempts on my end to get her to pay, it was always one excuse after another. Some situations I could understand, like a job lapse, however after a while it was becoming apparent that she wasn't wanting to pay me. One thing led to another and there was a small argument and she said she was moving within the next 30 days or so. She moved two days later on May 31st. She owes us a total of 1800$. I live in Indiana, and I don't know what I am able to do. I would like to see about suing her to get what she owes me, but does an agreement through Facebook Messages count as a written agreement? She never disagreed, she completely agreed with the arrangement. We even let her now hubby borrow $350 to keep his butt out of jail to pay his probation fines. Any help is appreciated!
