The obvious question is why you dont' fix it yourself and send the bill to the landlord. That should be cheaper than allegedly paying 20 times you normal water use. (Which is not at all believable unless it's like the faucet is on all the time.) Then you send the bill to the landlord. If you didn't tell the landlord in writing about the problem, you have no proof that s/he knew.
So you go into court, you present your side, the judge will comment as I have and you will have to move because you are not withholding rent for a valid reason. (By the way, did you tell your landlord that you are withholding for that reason - in writing?) You usually have five days to move, that's why I say, start looking now.
Maybe, if you had paid rent, they would have had the money to fix the leak.
This may sound harsh, but that's the law.
The court will order you to be evicted. You will have a few days after that before the sheriff shows up to escort you off the property.
Apparently you did not follow your state's landlord/tenant laws before withholding your rent. You are now finding out what the consequences of your actions are.
You will be renting from slumlords for many years to come. No decent LL will trust you now that you have a proven record of stealing another LL's income.
You will get evicted. It is illegal in most states to withhold rent over a repair issue without a court order. When you stopped paying you became the one breaking the law.
There are proper procedures you MUST follow in each state to force landlords to make needed repairs. When you fail to go through the proper procedures you get screwed.
You will get evicted if you don't show up to court without the money.
You don't pay the rent, never mind the excuse, you are out.
You will be evicted for your failure to pay rent.
I am 2 months behind on rent and being evicted my rent is 400 a month on the cout papers my landlord said I owe 1700 plus cost. This Oct is my second month without paying and I'm not paying because landlord won't fix water leak which has cost me 20x normal usage or give me credit on 900 elect yuan bill owed to fix wiring so the house wouldn't burn down
