When you buy goods or services the law protects your consumer rights. In your case there is nothing you can do, your boyfriend was told verbally that the ring is half price!!! this is a way of selling technique.
You can get help if you’re treated unfairly or when things go wrong. This includes:
faulty goods
poor service
problems with contracts
problems with builders
rogue traders
None of the above give you a good reason to complain, I would say just insure it with its present value.
The insurance guy was most likely wrong. In my experience, the coverage should be what it would cost to replace it. For example, my husband originally paid $3000 for my engagement ring. The actual appraisal (which should come with the ring, else you will need to pay for one yourself) says $8000. It is insured for $8000. Perhaps that is a difference between your insurance company and mine, but the appraisal papers are the key.
Well, why would a jewelry store tell you the truth?
They never have before.
He will understand how jewelry stores work.
You have to do serious homework before buying a ring and know prices.
Never would anyone just go to a store without doing research.
They can tell you anything, and you would believe it.
You mean you'd only like the ring if it had been worth more...?
Something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
There is nothing you can do.
My boyfriend bought my an engagement ring a few weeks ago from ernest jones. When he bought it it was on clearance but was verbally told it was near enough half price. I went to get it valued for insurance and was told that that was not the case and it was only worth just what he paid for it. Where do I stand? Can I do anything about it? I have not told him what I got it valued for yet as he will be upset. What shall I do?
Thanks
