I suggest you find one of those people who posts signs saying "we buy property fast".But whatever you do, find a way to transfer title to someone else because if it's still in your name you would be liable for any problems relating to the house. like if crackheads move in and set it on fire and the fire damages the house next door.
If you own the property outright and have no liens or debts against it, then you can attempt to find a charity and donate it to them. You can try housing organizations, homeless organizations, and even animal organizations. I know that some animal organizations are trying to get into Detroit to help with the massive homeless animal issues. There may even be Detroit 'beautification' or rebuilding charities that would take the property.
Owning the property outright without liens means you have no mortgage, no HELOC, no outstanding property taxes, no one else is on the deed, no one is claiming you owe them money for work done in the house (like a plumber or contractor), no unpaid HOA dues, etc.
If you can find a charity to take it, you should be able to deduct the value of the property from your taxes.
Otherwise, it would be smarter just to sell the property. Get an agent and list it at a ridiculously low price. Sell it to the first cash offer and do a full closing. This means the property is no longer your responsibility.
If you just abandon it, property taxes will collect and could end up ruining your credit once the house is auctioned off by the county.
Good Luck.
In Detroit, Wayne county? Walk away, Nothing else needs to be done.
So I'm able to sell the property or give it to the Detroit city?
The property is so shabby that it has to rehab and it's not worth to do it.
Does the city is always accepting giving away the property?
I have a very bad shape property in Detroit.
I'm sure I can't sell it to anyone is too bad.
I want to abandon my ownership.
What are my option to relinquish my property.
Thank you for helping me.
