My professional advise is, Yes its hard and No it's not hard. It depends on what type of cold calling you have to make.
Let me shine some light on this type of work. Example: Lets say Im hired by an Insurance company or Cell Phone service provider to work at their calling center. Sometimes they have a list of numbers from existing clients, already signed on with their service. In this case, my cold calling will be to a bunch of customers already signed on and qualify for an existing promotion, or their contract is up and we are making a reminder call to inform them is they stay on with us we will knock off 40% of their bill if they stay on. In this case, Im actually helping people and in some cases, people wait for these types of call to see what options they have before switching carrier. In this case...this is some what easy. Some people will say yes and some will say no.
Now, on the other hand lets say you're cold calling new potential customers. Example: Lets say I get hired by a local gym and they hand me a public phone book and say....Ok, start calling anyone. Then you'll get a bunch of people hanging up without a chance of me finishing my 1st sentence. Then thats hard.. if this happens, leave right away. This means this company doesn't care about you, you will not have any future or potential for growth. Now, if the gym already has a list of leads from people signing up for more info or a list generated from actual people who signed up and heard of the company....then this shows some type of organization and I would give it a try.
Look all in all, nothing is easy, you know that but inform yourself on what they want you to do first before you commit to it. It might be a good thing, theres lots of people making a good living off of this type of work. Most Radio stations and TV station do this type of stuff all the time in their sales department, Both Pepsi and Coke do it too when looking for new retail locations to sell their products. Over all, if they have a plan on who they want you to call, it show some kind of organization....if they don't and hand you a public phone book....run for the hills.
I have an ex-directory number, and still get cold calling - I'm afraid I get extremely annoyed and at times rather rude, especially as most of the calls seem to come at mealtimes. Cold calling is a nuisance.
Very hard. No one wants unsolicited phone calls.

What makes you think it looks easy? Hugely tough.
A career in recruitment looks tempting, but its surely not as easy as it looks to actually get clients on board?
