Is GlassesNow.co.uk a legit website?

Posted at: 2015-03-04
Hi,

GlassesNow here. Yes, we're a legit website - I know you'd expect us to say that, but here's some reasons to trust us. Yes, we're new, we only launched in late January, but we have reviews already (and they are linked to actual order numbers - this isn't people we know writing these):

Second, we are indeed affiliated with a real bricks and mortar optician - I2I optometrists in Glasgow. Call them and they will confirm - 0141 552 2030

We are also linked with a larger website which we have been running for a while - Pretavoir.co.uk

You'll find a link to GlassesNow on the FAQ page of that website. Pretavoir also has thousands of decent reviews on Reviewcentre.co.uk and Trustpilot.

Yes our prices are slightly lower than the High St, but not to the point where our legitimacy should come into question. For example, Ray Ban Aviator for £60 or less? Fake. Ray Ban Aviator for £70-100 - almost certainly genuine.

Also, look at our images. They are not images from the manufacturer - eyewear manufacturers do not supply high-resolution full 360o images. We have these frames in stock in our stock room and took the images ourselves. You can also see on the images - again, take a Ray Ban frame and you'll notice the Ray Ban logo etched onto the lens in the top left. You'll also see the very finely etched 'RB' (zoom in to see this) on the right (as you're looking at the frame head-on) of the right lens. So these are genuine images of genuine frames.

Depending on your definition of 'discount sunglasses sites' the majority are not selling Chinese counterfeits. Again, yes if a frame is unbelievably cheap - lets say £100 less than anywhere else. Tom Fords for £30, definitely knock-offs. Tom Fords for £100 are almost certainly just fine.

You're looking at a site with a legitimate SSL certificate, Realex as a payment processor - both things that fake sites would really struggle to get, as checks are performed on individuals trying to take payments online. Those breaking the law - especially in the UK will be unlikely to use the same payment processor as Virgin Atlantic and Vodafone.

Also, I have never seen a fake site selling prescription lenses - this should be another signal that an eyewear site is legitimate. We grind all our lenses on site in our lab using the latest state of the art equipment.

Please get in touch if you have any other concerns regarding us being a legitimate site. We do not sell fakes - never will and never have, we are based in the UK (I am writing this from Glasgow), and we use the same eyewear suppliers as Harrods, Harvey Nicholls and every independent optician in the world. We have accounts with Luxottica, Safilo, and Marcolin - the three major eyewear manufacturers for brands like Ray Ban, Tom Ford, Gucci, Dior and Oakley (amongst others).

Email us at info at glassesnow.co.uk or give us a call on 0141 5486520 if you need further clarification.

The address used in the 7 month old site's registration is shown on Google street view as i2i Opticians storefront. As long as it's not a fake site stealing the business's address you should be OK.

(The majority? of discount sunglasses sites are selling Chinese counterfeits)

Just look at the price being charged ... that gives you a clue about whether they are a copy or the real thing - also do the give an address and phone number in UK? On the face of it they look legit - why not give them a call?

Actually, it's all down to your opinion, if you think it's a great website, then that's what you think, if you don't think so, then that's not what you think. So don't care what anyone thinks, because it's all down to your opinion.

Have a great day and I hope my answer helped.

One that i bought before.

No reason to think it isn't. It has a phone number and address and linked to an opticians in Glasgow.

I am looking to buy some Ray Ban frames from Glassesnow.co.uk but I don't know whether it is directly safe to do this.

Has anyone used this website before when buying their own glasses?
