Is this a good idea?

I'm pretty sure it's legal to move from the UK to the US. If you're worried about hurricanes, it's easy to get insurance; if you're worried about theft, move to a wealthy neighborhood. Strange as it may sound, there are fewer break-ins in richer areas.

Unless you have a bad criminal record, there is no reason for you to not move to the US. I have many friends and co-workers who are here from the UK. But you should reconsider Florida as the job outlook down there is not all that great. If I were you, I would consider Atlanta, Georgia...Or Gaithersburg, Maryland or Washington DC. Lots of jobs. Lots. If it is Ocean that you want, consider Ocean City Maryland. If you get there about April, you can get a great summer job to carry you through fall and a nice apt near the wonderful, warm (ish) mid Atlantic Ocean.

Just rent till you know you want to live there. Hurricanes happen on or near the coast so move away from the coast to avoid it.

Houses don't get robbed but they can get burglarized. Obviously you want to live in a safe area - just call Police Department to check stats for the area. Many in my area - considered a very safe town - get burglarized primarily for leaving doors unlocked... mostly clueless university (!) students.

Buying a property in America makes no difference to your residency or requirements for a visa - it certainly doesn't mean you can live there for any longer than you get a tourist visa for.

In addition, you'd need enough money to buy the property outright (you won't get a mortgage in America), and you'll have to pay property taxes and bills whether or not you're living there.

of course you can move to Florida, but remember you won't be able to work, claim any benefits or see a doctor etc , send your kids to school

As long as you have enough money to support yourself and your family and that include housing, medical bills etc, then of course you can move there and buy a house

Ok

the us is boring

I live in the uk and I really want to move to America in Florida but I don't think I can move there legally so would it be a good idea to buy a house there for us to visit regularly?

also what will i do about hurricanes and what if the house gets robbed?
