Even if he turned in his keys and left, that didn't remove his name from the lease. Everyone who signed the lease was included in the eviction.
Most likely there was no actual eviction but rather a suit for the money owed so they could get a judgment. Regardless, this will always be in his public records.
So your husband is trying to tell you that he was never contacted to go to court and the court lodged a legal eviction against him without his knowledge ? Sorry, but the courts do not operate in such fashion. Try to refresh your husband's memory. You owe them $7500 and you need to pay that off to clear it up.
An eviction is a court action. Proper legal steps must be taken. They would have notified him at his last known address.
"I'm wondering if there's anything I can do about it now. "
Pay them the $7500.
lLast year my husband and I applied for an apartment and they said that he had an eviction on his record. He had no clue that he had an eviction and we had rented a home before this and it never showed up. My husband found out that his former apartment complex had filed the eviction when he lived there in 2009. His ex girlfriend moved out and he couldn't afford the apartment so he left his keys there and left so he did break the lease but wasn't what you would call an eviction. I know there are specific steps that have to be taken when evicting someone and I'm pretty sure they weren't followed since my husband had no clue he had an eviction. They also didn't file it until 4 years after he left the apartment. Now his credit report says he owes them $7500. It's seriously ruining our lives and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do about it now.
