" I mean can't he hold on to this apartment till August. " no most landlords will hold a place more than 1 month. Why should your poor planning cause them to lose money?!
"Is it possible to leave and move in June without paying for June and July" nope. if that is what is required in your lease then he has every legal right to hold you to it.
You should have given your notice last month when you found the place. It is a tenant's responsibility to read the lease & know what notice is required. You cannot blame him for you not paying attention.
You really need to look at your lease contract to see what the termination clause is. Sometimes you have to give 30 days notice or just a short 2 weeks. That is what you truly need to look at. If the termination clause does state that you need to give 2 months notice than that is what you have to do and there is really no way of getting around that.
for the landlord of the new apartment, they usually dont want to just "hold" an apartment for several months as that is a loss of income for them when they can get another tenant in and collect that rent right away.
I hope this helps!
You will be sued if you do. The new apt. manager should not hold an apartment for 2 months without rent. Why would he do that?
Look at your lease. Does it say two months notice or one month notice. If it says one, give one month notice and move. You could try negotiating with your current landlord if the two months is in the lease. Otherwise you can't ask the new landlord to go restless for two months for you.
Last month we found an apartment and the landlord tells us to come back in a month for application form. We come back in a month and we get the application form. We really want to move in there so we said that we'd move in June. Now my current landlord says that we have to give at least 2 months notice before leaving.
I went back to the new apartment landlord and he's like; "We don't have any apartments for August". I mean can't he hold on to this apartment till August. What else can we do? This landlady of ours is like: " You still have to pay the rend for the 2 month that you're not in apartment if you movie out in June".
We have been living in this building for 7 years. Every time we hear that someone has left the apartment in short notice and etc. Even this new landlord was like " this guy left on short notice"......and he's aware of the rules of 2 months prior notice....why is he being difficult ?
Is it possible to leave and move in June without paying for June and July (for our current apartment)?
