Pascal is correct. Get a proper length piece of wood and lay it in front of the fixed half of the sliding door. That will actually be more secure than a lock, which are rather flimsy on sliding doors. Assuming that the water is city supplied, the apartments have no control over the pressure. As long as you have running water, you have no complaint. Thus, you have no valid basis for breaking a lease without penalty.
Take the landlord to court and let a judge decide. You can not just break the lease on your own.
You can effectively lock the slider with a piece of wood.
You have no cause to break the lease penalty free, so shouldn't be a shocker they won't negotiate.
Send the property management company a certified,, return receipt letter informing them that it has been over 5 months and despite mulitple request to fix the lock, it is still broken. Spell out that you are concerned about your security.
You need a papertrail. You may want to contact an attorney to see if this constitutes a breach on their part.
It's almost not a question, but I am in a 12 month lease agreement and want out. Well ever since I moved in (over 5 months ago) my sliding glass door lock has been broken. I put it on my initial walk through and requested a work order for it. Well I few weeks went by and I requested another work order for the water pressure and AGAIN for the door. Well about a week ago people have been being broken into a lot recently and I called the actual property management instead of the little front desk people. Well to be blunt she was a ***** and refused to even reason with me at all on lease a lease break agreement with no penalties. I have no idea what to do and I feel like I am being treated unfairly. It clearly states on the front page of the agreement that they are required to give me a lock on my sliding glass door. I am worried of being broken into and getting my things stolen. She said they would get the door fixed (the management lady) but I come home today and still neither the water nor the door has been fixed. I really want out of this lease. They haven't been posting the break ins or anything like that on the community boards and I feel like that is ridiculous. We as the community have a right to know these kinds of things and I just want out. Period. No penalties and after a through walk through I would like my full deposit back as well. I have done nothing wrong here and I feel like I'm getting screwed over.
Someone PLEASE help me.
