You can move out anytime you wish, but you are still responsible for the rent., If the roommate stops paying, you can be sued for the full amount since most likely your lease states that you are jointly and severally liable.
The LL does not have to sue everyone listed on the lease; he can choose to only go after the party from whom he can reasonably expect to pay.
No, but if the lease has not expired, you remain liable for the rent should your roommate not pay. Legally, you remain on the lease, even if you give a 30 day notice until the end of the lease and your roommate can actually go to court to require you to continue to pay half the rent unless you have th e$200 a month agreement in writing.
here , u can't get off lease.
here u actually owe 1/2 of lease fees not 200.
if u leave, we get to charge u until lease is finished.
Plus legal fees Plus Broken lease record.
play kiss up to roomie and figure out your/her issues
then finish lease.
read your lease as to when to write you are moving.
can save 1000s$.
If you have a lease, you cant just leave. Try to negotiate an early termination fee with landlord. Otherwise it goes against your credit rating.
Whether or not your credit takes a hit depends on whether or not rent continues to be paid. If you leave and your roommate fails to pay the rent and gets evicted, you'll be included in that as well as any lawsuits for unpaid rent. You remain liable for any damages as well.
You can't be removed from the lease without your roommate and landlord being in agreement to do so, and with you being the roommate with the credit worthiness, you can pretty much bet the landlord will keep you on the lease.
You can move out at any time you want. But you are responsible for the rent if your roommate doesn't pay. If the lease is for a year, and you try to break it, you will be responsible for the rest of the monies owed on the lease, unless the landlord agrees. If you find a another qualified tenant your landlord should rewrite the lease into the new tenants name.
$200 per month? I would put up with my ex mother in-law for that low of rent.
Hello,
I'm trying to move and trying to get into another apartment. I'm on a lease with my boss and I want to write a letter to our property manager to give him my 30 day notice. The rent is 1350 and I only pay $200 to my roommate because she pays the rent. But we got into it a lot and I'm stressed out. The reason I have my name on the lease because she couldn't get it on her own because she has really bad credit. She paid for the security and etc but I'm giving my 30 day notice to the landlord. Will I end up with bad credit?
