My landlord is spying on me, any advice?

In every state I've ever researched, lodgers cannot lock the owner out of their room. They are afforded far fewer rights than tenants. The landlord actually usually has the right to enter your room at any time, as long as it's not harassment and it's not for illegal reasons.

This is an issue between you and the landlord. You need to have a discussion with her about your privacy expectations and explain that you are not her child, not her buddy, and not someone who is comfortable with a stranger in your room when you aren't around. Ask her what you can do to make the situation more comfortable for everyone, whether that's installing an outer lock, you promising that you aren't doing anything illegal, you agreeing to allow weekly inspections, and you understanding that if she suspects anything weird, she can enter without your permission.

As far as your items in the kitchen, stop leaving them there. Anything that you wish to keep, you keep in your room. Anything valuable, you keep at your mother's house or in a lock box. Yes, it's going to be a pain in the butt to haul your rice maker to and from your room, but if it's going to disappear if you leave it out, you'll need to keep a closer watch on it.

If you are concerned about what's going on, buy a security camera.

Unfortunately, you are between a rock and a hard place by saying that you can't afford to move. You'll either have to work it out or learn to put up with her antics until you can get yourself together enough to afford to move. Sorry.

Good Luck

Could purchase a lock for the door, i know you said its her house but your paying her rent you should have some privacy and respect. I know you said funds are low to be moving, but unfortunately that maybe your only answer if she cant respect your space.

Someone who is staying in someone's house is called a lodger, not a tenant.

In most states, as a lodger you can not legally lock someone out of a portion of their home.

So deal with it, or more.

Find out what the laws are in your area. You may be able to press charges for invasion of privacy.

Don't do anything illegal nor anything you want showing up on the Internet.
